This past Saturday I had the chance to DJ a wedding reception held at the Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall in East Brady PA. Over the years, I have performed at hundreds of different banquet halls throughout Western Pennsylvania, but have never been to the Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall. So, naturally I was a little bit apprehensive about what type of facility I would be faced with.
Saturday arrived and I made the 35 minute journey from Slippery Rock over to Sugarcreek Township. When I arrived I was quite surprised. The Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall is actually a very nice banquet hall. The hall was built just a few years ago and is maintained very well.

The main hall measures approximately 75′ X 75′ and can easily accommodate several hundred guests. Located at the one end of the hall is a large, fully equipped, commercial kitchen. There is also a bar area with large built in coolers for drinks.
The main hall has white walls with an elegant oak wainscoting. There are 3 brass & crystal chandeliers in the center of the hall and matching wall sconces on each of the side walls to provide lighting. The restrooms are large enough to handle a wedding with several hundred guests and are clean and easily accessible. The entire banquet hall is handicap accessible and has multiple access points to allow for easy load-in for decorations, vendors, etc.
The Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall does not provide the bartenders, alcohol, or mixers. These items must be provided by the bride & groom. This can result in a savings of several hundreds of dollars for thrifty brides & grooms. The hall also allows brides & grooms to arrange for their own caterers, or you can use their in-house catering services. Prices as of June 2009, for their in-house catering, range from $8.00 – $12.00 per person depending on food choices. Two advantages of using their in-house catering are 1) the cost of the hall rental is less with their catering 2) they do not charge sales tax on the food.
The cost to rent the hall is very reasonable and varies based on the day of the week. These are the rates as of June 2009.
- $500.00 – Friday & Saturday WITHOUT catering from STVFD
- $300.00 – Friday & Saturday WITH catering from STVFD (min. 150 people)
- $250.00 – Sunday thru Thursday
- $150.00 – for 3 hours or less
Deanna Jack recently assumed the position of Banquet Manager and she is a great person to deal with. Deanna & her husband Randy have many years of experience in the wedding industry. They previously owned & operated their own wedding photography business and have worked at several hundred weddings through the years. Deanna has brought this experience with her to the Sugarcreek Township Fire Hall and has transformed the operation from a facility that hosted 9 weddings 2 years ago, to a popular banquet hall that is scheduled for over 35 weddings in 2009.

Hello.. My name is Greg Gerken. I’m a stand up comedian in the Pittsburgh area. I saw pictures of your banquet hall and am very familiar with the area you are located in as I have a camp about twenty minutes north of where you are located. I was wondering if you would be interested in being a part of fire hall comedy tour. I am not sure if you have ever done anything like that.. but it could make your hall a good bit of money. I have my own sound equipment and would provide you with fliers and tickets to the show as well as bring two or three other comedians with me. My husband Brian and I got married may 15,2010! We had our reception at the hall! They are wonderful people to work with! They were very flexible on our request and were very friendly! The hall is beautiful! It is a very good venue for any kind of event a person is planning! I would recommend the hall to anyone who would ask! Thanks again for everything!
